Daily Fiber The Daily Fiber series began with dishtowels I had saved for 35 years. In her class on Cloth with History, Dorothy Cauldwell showed me why. That summer I traveled with another quilt artist, Judy McDermott. My mother had recently died, and my grief was raw. As we sat and stitched together, the dishtowels became starting points for stories about my mother and our lives. Stained, torn and ragged, dishtowels hold the history of meals cooked and eaten, wine drunk and spilled, dishes and tears dried, and lives lived and lost with laughter and sorrow. Plain and deconstructed, everything in these quilts appears to be on the surface. They speak of the beauty of the ordinary. This series is lovingly dedicated to Claire Ferrono, Judy McDermott and Dorothy Cauldwell. |
